PAL Sponsor & Media Appreciation Luncheon a Hit!

PAL’s Media Thanks Highlight Reel, Created by Fusion Brand Experiences

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Jan. 19, 2011– The Police Athletic League of Philadelphia held its annual Sponsor & Media Appreciation Luncheon yesterday, at the Park Hyatt at the Bellevue.  More than 200 PAL sponsors, media friends and Board members braved the icy weather and enjoyed a wonderful lunch and a terrific program, which was hosted by Phillies’ Director of Public Affairs, Scott Palmer.   The eventful afternoon was highlighted by the much-anticipated announcement of the 2011 PAL Annual Award Dinner Honorees.

The 2011 Award Dinner Honorees are a special group, who will be recognized for their remarkable dedication to PAL and for leadership at their respective organizations, each of which are pillars of community philanthropy.  This year, PAL will be honoring Ruben Amaro, Jr., Senior Vice President & General Manager of the Phillies; Daniel Hilferty, President and CEO of Independence Blue Cross; and Jeffrey Scarpello, Esq., Executive Director of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), Penn-Del-Jersey.

In addition to the Honoree reveal, the Sally Berlin PAL Spotlight Award was given to  Gene Castellano.  Castellano, a long time Board member and current PR Committee Chair, is the Vice President for Marketing & Communications at Cabrini College. Over the years, Castellano has made it his mission to ensure that PAL receives proper media attention and has gone above and beyond the call of duty, exceeding expectations in his role as PR Committee Chair.

Attendees were also treated to dynamic guest speakers, including the Phillies’ Scott Franzke and West Oak Lane PAL Alumna Paulette Brown.  Brown’s tear-jerking recollection of her experiences at PAL captured the audience’s attention and painted a vivid picture of PAL’s effects on the communities it serves.  Brown, now 28, grew up in a single-parent family and enrolled in PAL at the age of 12 with her two younger sisters.  Through the guidance of her PAL Center Director, Police Officer Steve Brennan, Brown overcame the challenges of growing up in the inner city, and has enjoyed great successes, both at PAL and in everyday life.  When speaking about Brennan, Brown had fond memories of a strong friendship that began in her childhood: “He’s one of my biggest inspirations. He’s the best person I’ve ever met.”

Overall, the event was a massive success.  PAL thanks its sponsor and media friends for their dedication to furthering PAL’s mission of “Cops Helping Kids,” and in assisting in significantly promoting PAL throughout 2010.
