PAL Awards Philadelphia High School Graduates with Scholarships
In a ceremony held at the Union League of Philadelphia, this year’s Scholarship Luncheon honored more than 200 high school graduates. Hosted by Shawnette Wilson from FOX29, the scholars and sponsors enjoyed remarks from noteworthy guest speakers, including Temple University Men’s Basketball Coach, Fran Dunphy, West Oak Lane PAL alumna, Alicia Smith and Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey. All guests shared inspiring messages and congratulations to each scholar for making positive decisions in their lives.
PAL also awarded two scholarships to alumni attending graduate school in the fall. The Eliot C. Nisenbaum Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Sean Gallagher from Gibbons PAL because he manifests Eliot’s thirst for knowledge, entrepreneurial spirit and compassion for others.
The Anne Krancer Memorial Scholarship was given to Antoinette Barnes from Tucker PAL to pursue her masters degree in social work from Widener University. Antoinette’s achievements through her college pursuits as well as her personal endeavors reflect Anne’s kind spirit, giving nature and love of education. One additional special scholarship was awarded to Tyreek Peeples from Southwest PAL. This scholarship, sponsored by Comcast SportsNet in memory of their former General Manager and PAL’s long-time Board Member Sam Schroeder, also includes an internship with Comcast SportsNet during Tyreek’s junior year.
PAL thanks this year’s luncheon guests and scholarship sponsors, including the Grace S. and W. Linton Nelson Foundation, Patricia Kind and Family, Ronald and Evie Krancer and Athole G. Jacobi, M.D. Congratulations and good luck to all scholars!
