Future Lawyers of Philadelphia Seek Justice
After more than one month of practice, dozens of Southwest PAL members performed their first Mock Trial on November 12, 2012. Participants prepared with PAL Board Member and attorney, Gino Benedetti, and some of his colleagues from Dilworth Paxson LLP. Students from Drexel University’s Earle Mack School of Law also helped the youngsters study.
After reading the case, each PAL participant selected a part to play in the trial- lawyer, witness, suspect, victim or juror. They drafted questions to interrogate the opposing side in order to prove suspect “Kiran Taufique,” guilty of kidnapping beyond reasonable doubt. After much deliberation, the jury ruled in favor of the Prosecution.
The trial was followed with a reception hosted by Dean Mary McGovern of the Earle Mack School of Law. Participants, many of whom see a law career in their future, created lasting relationships with the lawyers and law students they worked with.
PAL thanks all participants, Dilworth Paxson LLP attorneys and volunteers, Drexel University and Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas Judge Lori Dumas-Brooks, who presided over the trial.
