PAL Children Compete To Take Home Citywide Championships
PAL’s Fitz-Dixon Basketball League wrapped up on President’s Day, with four exciting championship games taking place on the court at the University of Pennsylvania’s historic Palestra. Family, friends and PAL supporters gathered to watch the best of the best in the City of Philadelphia. Cheerleaders from a handful of PAL centers shook the stands with their perfectly executed dances and routines, setting the stage for what would be an unforgettable day. There was no lack of buzz and excitement in the Cathedral of Basketball as these young competitors left their hearts and souls on the court.
The 10-and-under matchup was a thriller in which Paley PAL came out victorious over Cobbs Creek PAL. Paley’s 12-and-under team couldn’t match the success of their younger counterparts and suffered a tough loss to 23rd PAL’s team, which competed as if they were a well-oiled machine. The 14-and-under matchup was a hard-fought battle between two valiant competitors: Bluford PAL and Audenreid PAL. The first half left the game overwhelmingly in Bluford’s favor, but Audenreid made a quick comeback and put themselves within reach until they ultimately fell to their unstoppable opponents. The final game, a 16-and-under battle between Ford PAL and Audenreid, was a true South Philly classic. Ford proved to be too much to handle for Audenreid PAL, as they effortlessly put points on the board.
PAL congratulates all players in the Citywide Fitz-Dixon Basketball League, and looks forward to exciting championship games next year. PAL thanks the University of Pennsylvania and Board member Maureen Rush, M.S., CPP, for continuously supporting PAL’s mission of “Cops Helping Kids” and making the Palestra available to PAL year after year.
