PAL’s annual GEICO/Stradley Ronon Math Challenge Finals were held last Thursday at the Rizzo PAL Center. Over 48 youngsters faced the challenge of multiplying, dividing, adding and subtracting their way to 24. Youngsters were divided into groups according to their grade levels (5th through 8th).
Participants fueled their hard-working brains with hoagies, snacks and drinks and enjoyed the company of friends from other PAL centers. Each participant was rewarded for their commitment to education with medals, and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners received plaques and Modell’s Gift Cards.
Each of the 26 PAL centers compete in this citywide 24 Math tournament, which helps students embrace the excitement of mathematics. 24 Math is used at PAL as a tool to make learning fun and gives youth an opportunity to tackle important skills with great enthusiasm. One youngster said, “I like 24 Math because it challenges me.” Ultimately, the thrills of playing this game translate to improved
success in the classroom and higher self-confidence in youths’ studies.
