The 2017 PAL Award Dinner honored four distinguished Philadelphia area leaders in Retired Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey, Joshua and Marjorie Harris, and Jefferey B. Hendrey at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown Hotel on May 10, 2017. The four honorees were awarded the 2017 PAL Award due to their unwavering support of PAL and dedication to PAL’s mission and vision.
The evening, which raised $906,065 for PAL’s mission of Cops Helping Kids, kicked off with an exciting cocktail hour and bustling silent auction featuring hundreds of coveted items, including exclusive trips and experiences.
The formal program began at 7 pm with the first performance of PAL’s new drum line, the PAL Blue Cadets. Philadelphia 76ers TV commentator Marc Zumoff served as emcee, and the program prominently featured dozens of PAL kids and police officers.
Perhaps most memorable was a special stroll down memory lane, highlighting PAL’s 70 year history here in Philadelphia. During this portion of the evening, guests heard from Paulette Brown, a West Oak Lane PAL alum; West Oak Lane Center Director and Paulette’s mentor, Retired Police Officer Steve Brennan; and Retired Police Officer Mel Kilgore, who spent more than 20 years in the PAL Police Unit and worked with many of the original PAL officers.
Thanks to all of our pals, donors, and supporters for making this evening a night to remember, and congratulations to our 2017 PAL Awardees.
